About Us

Rush River owner/brewers Dan Chang and Nick Anderson met while working at Mac & Jack's Brewery in Seattle, WA. Soon enough they decided to pursue the dream of owning their own microbrewery, and began to search for the ideal location to begin. Taking into account brewing and distribution laws of various states, as well as the numbers of breweries and micros currently in production, they found Minnesota to be a market ripe for a new style of beers. Nick grew up in Minneapolis, and Dan is from Milwaukee, so the choice was made to return home to the Midwest.

Upon arriving in Minneapolis, Nick began working in the Uptown bar scene, first at Liquor Lyle's, and then at The Bulldog. Here he gained insight into the retail end of the beer business, and gleaned consumer information from the patrons. Meanwhile, Dan worked on the brew staff at Summit Brewing Co. in St. Paul where he learned more about premium ale production and quality control. The third partner in Rush River Brewing Co. is Robbie Stair. He came into the picture as the search for a building became serious. His picturesque farm on Lake Pepin is located only minutes from Red Wing, MN, and provided an ideal location to brew small batch, handcrafted ales.

The brewery boasts a twenty barrel brewhouse, and enough fermenters to produce approximately 5,000 barrels per year. The entire brewery was custom designed and hand-built by the three owners over two and one-half years and represents a true showpiece of small scale ingenuity and perseverance.

In March of 2007, Rush River Brewing Co. moved its entire operation to a new facility built in River Falls, WI. This new brewery was designed primarily for future expansion and the installation of a bottling line. Six-packs will become available on a limited basis starting in September 2007. The first two brands available in bottles will be The Unforgiven Amber Ale and Bubblejack India Pale Ale. Rush River Brewing Co. thanks you for your continued support.
